From Behind the Counter to Behind the Technology, Rebecca's Story

Rebecca M., Associate Manager, Restaurant Evolution

Rebecca started with Taco Bell in high school as a company Restaurant Team Member. When she graduated, she was faced with the dilemma of either staying in school or working. So, Rebecca decided to continue working at Taco Bell. She went from working as the cashier, to the drive-thru, to closing, to Shift Lead and finally, an Assistant General Manager. Then, she went to a different company for five years before returning to Taco Bell Corp. in 2020.

“A few years after the pandemic, Kunal V. and Robert G., from the corporate office, stopped by my restaurant to gather feedback on a new piece of technology that we all had just been introduced to. When they asked my opinion, I let them know all the problems we were facing and how difficult it was to use.”

After chatting with Kunal and Robert, they were inspired by her passion and knowledge. So much so, that they encouraged Rebecca to apply to an open Analyst role in the Operations Department. She was nervous because she worked in restaurants her whole life and never knew the corporate side of things; there were whole teams deciding how to rollout new technology to restaurants or ideating on how to best launch a new menu item for restaurant teams. This was her first look behind-the-scenes of the quick-service industry.

“I started off as an Analyst working on POS (Point-Of-Service) technology, coming up with rules and regulations on how restaurant technology functions operate through the feedback I gathered.”

Since then, Rebecca has grown her role going from working with one piece of technology to handling multiple that make up the Taco Bell tech ecosystem. She was also able to go back to school through Taco Bell Corp.’s education benefit to get her B.A. in business/business analytics. Now, she spends her time connecting the different restaurant technology and creating a seamless experience for users. This connection would not have been possible without her early years working in the restaurant, and she cannot emphasize enough how grateful she is for that experience.

“For anyone working in the restaurant, and would like to pursue other opportunities, never second guess or doubt yourself of your own capabilities. All restaurant skills are enough to jump into a role like this. Believe in yourself and if you want to do something, start paying attention to that area, reach out to people in the space you want to go in, and ask questions! That’s what I did, and I am super grateful to Kunal and Robert for taking a chance on me. I don’t know where I would be without this opportunity of a lifetime.”

Rebecca, we're proud of you and cannot wait to see the amazing things you’ll continue to accomplish at The Bell!
